About the Work
In the Dominican Republic, about 4,000 women die of cancer every year, mainly breast cancer. La Sirena wanted to promote breast self-examination, a fundamental method for early detection, but most women stated that they never had time to do it. That's why we partnered up with the most important and busiest women in television. In the country, most shows are hosted by a man and a woman, and on Breast Cancer Awareness Day, the females TV presenters stood up in the middle of their live shows without any explanations and left the set when it was their counterpart's turn to speak. An onscreen overlay appeared inviting viewers to tune in on our Facebook Live to discover why they left. The reason: to guide them on a live breast self-exam. With this idea we proved that any small window of time can be used to fight breast cancer.
