About the Work

For the 30th anniversary of “Just do it,” Nike wanted to celebrate athletes who dreamed crazy, who pushed themselves further, much further. Few athletes dreamed crazier than Colin Kaepernick. The controversial NFL quarterback had protested police brutality by always kneeling during the national anthem. Nike’s spokesman was a star athlete no longer playing, so who better to represent the message than someone who risked his dream in sports for an even bigger one. On the eve of the NFL season, we released a single Tweet by Kaepernick. Within a day, it was being talked about at the dinner table in just about every home in the U.S., not to mention by politicians, reporters, athletes, celebrities, and talks shows around the globe.
