About the Work

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon Landing, the JFK Presidential Library and Museum reintroduced a new generation to the man who inspired the mission by reimagining the Apollo Mission as if it happened today. A launch party was held at the Library where visitors were greeted with one of the largest AR objects ever created—a 363-foot, full-scale replica of the Saturn V rocket. To scale this experience, we held the first-of-its-kind livestream of an AR experience on Twitch where streamers, like Dr. Lupo, provided a “play through” of the launch—a modern version of Cronkite’s commentary 50 years ago. This 30-minute livestream featured exclusive interviews with astronauts, including Apollo 11’s Michael Collins, rare archival JFK footage and a live look at the AR launch. For the next four days, Twitch viewers tracked the mission in real time via a dedicated Apollo 11 Tracker feed that showed the god view of the mission in AR—for over 100 hours of continuous content. Popular Twitch influencer, BanzaiBaby created an immersive Command Center experience on her channel for additional content and commentary reminiscent of the ABC news telecast fifty years prior
