About the Work

In Mexico, the only journalist that can speak up without fear is a dead one. So we revived, Javier Valdez. Perhaps, the most iconic among hundreds of killed journalists in Mexico, to urge the Mexican president to commit to policies that would protect journalists and free speech. We also launched a decalogue to commit national and states governments on policies to protect journalits' lives.
This action is part of a platform created to use the identities of murdered journalists to protect the safety of the ones in risk.

On April 2019 We revived killed journalists’ Twitter accounts.
On Feb 2020. Using AI we did a video press conference with a revived J Valdez.
Nov 2020. Day of the dead. J Valdez addresses the president on National media.

CONTEXT
Mexico is the most dangerous country to be a journalist; more than 120 have been murdered since 2007. One would think that the issue would be in the top concerns of the population, and yet there’s not awareness or sufficient conversations on how, for every lost life in the line of duty, there is also a valuable amount of information that will never see the light.
Propuesta Cívica AC is the only ONG dedicated to provide legal support to their families in pursuit of justice.
