In 2021, GameStop was the most bet against stock in the US economy. Usually, this would be enough to make the company bankrupt, and wall street bankers earn millions.
Instead, people on Reddit started encouraging each other to buy these worthless stocks. Because of them, GameStop’s price soared. Next, they went after AMC, Blackberry, Nokia and all the companies Wall Street was betting against.Also, these Reddit investors call money Tendies, otherwise known as chicken tenders. They were getting lots of those. But then, Popeyes heard Robinhood, the popular trading app, was getting in the way of people getting their tendies, by blocking the popular Reddit stocks.This is #Tendies4Yall. One trading day later, Popeyes directly targeted these Redditors by turning stock codes that were banned in trading apps into promo codes in their own app. We launched with a targeted film on twitter, reddit, and popular financial TV channels.The internet loved it: +420 Million Impressions. +$4.5 Million in ad value. So did the finance guys at Popeyes: +49% Popeyes App Traffic. +34% Popeyes App Sales. +5% YOY in same store sales. For the first time in Wall Street History, the suits were the ones getting screwed. And in the end, Popeyes took a stance against unfair practices, and stood on the right side of history.
