About the Work
The inauguration of Kamala Harris as the first Black-Asian female Vice President of the U.S broke down multiple barriers.
For Girl Up this historic moment was an opportunity to make the foundation’s work known and to celebrate the role Kamala Harris had in paving the way for future generations of young girls.
Through its leadership programs, the Girl Up foundation has inspired over 75,000 girls in 125 countries and all 50 U.S. States to be a force for gender equality and social change. In 10 years, they’ve built a global community that provides young girls the space to learn, connect and take action.
Its audience has a tremendous, often untapped power. Many girls, particularly those from minority communities, are abandoning dreams and ambitions because they don’t have a model for what success looks like in those fields. Many underrepresented girls would never consider a career in politics or leadership roles, afraid that their capabilities may be silenced by their identity or of being denied opportunities.
This is why we created Today We Rise, a work that looks at this historic event through the eyes of the girls who make up the fabric and future of the country in the hopes of filling these young women with a sense of possibility.
