About the Work
In America, gun violence is a public health crisis. Since 2022, guns have become the leading cause of death for children and adolescents, ahead of illnesses and car accidents. It doesn't need to be this way. 80% of school shooters actually tell someone about their plans, which means that 80% of school shootings are preventable. Unfortunately, these threats are rarely taken seriously; under the assumption that the person making them is "just joking." To highlight the absurdity of treating threats of violence as "jokes" we asked comedians to incorporate real threats made by school shooters into their stand-up comedy sets. At first the audiences thought these threats were the set-up for a joke-but it soon became clear they were anything but funny.
