CABELL HARRIS | Don't Rest On Your Laurels
Thursday, March 30, 2023
Ad Man. Designer. Professor. Entrepreneur. Futurist. Cabell Harris is always thinking, it’s what he does. Cabell’s career began in Richmond Virginia. Fortunately, he was at the right place at the right time. Richmond was getting national attention as being one of the few creative hot spots outside New York. He continued building his reputation and portfolio by working for many distinguished companies in New York, Boston and Los Angeles. In Los Angeles, Cabell founded WORK Inc. as an agency for agencies. He returned to his roots and relocated the agency to Richmond in 1995. Few individuals have worked for more agencies or brands than Cabell. Along with managing WORK, creating ad campaigns, corporate identities, packaging products, publishing books, building apps, and taking his own brands and products to market, Cabell was a professor for over 10 years at the VCU BrandCenter. Today, WORK has evolved into a brand consultancy working directly with clients who need innovative thinking. Cabell has been recognized, multiple times, in every major industry award show including: Cannes, the Clios, the One Show, New York Addys, Art Directors Club, Graphis, Athena, Andy’s, British Design & Art Direction, Effie’s, Communication Arts, and over 10 Best of Shows for the local Richmond Addy’s. Wieden & Kennedy | The Inspiration Series Premiere w/ Rick Boyko - Charlotte
Thurs. April 7, 2022
“This series is not about the past. It’s an inspiring blueprint for the future.” They helped build the industry that built some of the most successful brands in history. They moved people. They inspired people. They are men and women whose ideas, fearlessness and vision changed the way we interact with brands. What makes some of these creative leaders of our time industry legends? What or who inspired them to pursue the career they did? What inspires them today? And how do they inspire those around them to think differently? These are the questions that Inspiration illustrates. The Inspiration Series was created and produced by Rick Boyko, former President, Chief Creative Officer, Ogilvy North America / former Director of the VCU Brandcenter, in partnership with the Advertising Club of New York, AICP and The Republik. Join us at Baldwin& as Rick presents the premiere screenings of Dan Wieden’s Inspiration followed by his partner David Kennedy who passed in December. Attendees of the Raleigh and Charlotte screenings will be the first to view these Inspiration Series and are invited to join us for a special Q&A with Rick afterwards. " The Inspiration Series is a mesmerizing exploration of those who have challenged, blew up, and remade the creative industry. Meaningful for aspiring students or any of us seeking a renewed understanding of what it takes to lead - both ourselves and the people around us.”- Brian Collins, CCO Collins: / Adjunct Professor School of Visual Arts "It's been said that the way to succeed in business is to study and learn from the best. The Inspiration Series is an exciting, unprecedented chance to do just that.” - Bob Scarpelli, Former Global CCO DDB / Adjunct Professor Northwestern University RSVP is required: Limited seating! How Young, Gifted Black Creatives Can Break Into The Ad Industry - Carolina Chapter
Wednesday, September 16th, 2020
Join us for The One Club Carolina's fifth (online) event on Wednesday, September 16, 2pm EST on Zoom! You know you want it – to be the creative powerhouse behind the ads you've seen since you were a kid. But getting to play is not as easy as you thought it might be. You’ve got your degree in communications, but you're being told that's not enough. You see job openings, but none are for beginners. Agencies say they want more creatives of color, but from the looks of their ads and their websites, where are all the black creatives? And on top of it all, there's a pandemic. But the heart wants what the heart wants. And for you, it's to be a creative in advertising. Presented by One Club Carolinas and hosted by McKinney, this panel is right for young black creatives who know they've got it. They just need to find out how to get to the agencies and people who are dead serious about building diverse creative teams. Led by McKinney Chief Creative Officer Jonathan Cude and moderated by 600 & Rising Founder Bennett D. Bennett, the panel will include VaynerMedia Creative Director Clarence Bradley; Goodby Silverstein Art Director Malika Reid; and Google Brand Studio Creative Lead Brandon Viney. And you, of course, because we want your voice to be heard. Presented by One Club Carolinas and Hosted by McKinney . Register here!

Chatting with Kristen Cavallo - Carolina Chapter
Wednesday, October 16th, 2019
Join us for The One Club Carolina's third event on October 16th, 2019! The Martin Agency's, Kristen Cavallo will be kicking off of our Carolina Chapter's third event with a talk and topic that will be announced soon! Doors open at 5:30pm for beer and small appetizers. Kristen will begin her talk at 6:30pm followed by a Q&A along with more drinks and networking. Cavallo never thought she’d be a CEO. She 100% wanted to be that cool, swashbuckling momma taking her kids on international escapades around the globe. Luckily, she said yes to both. With over 25 years’ experience working with high-octane brands, in her first year back at The Martin Agency in 2018 she led the charge to eradicate the gender wage gap, tackle invisibility with diversity, and create impactful ideas for clients like GEICO, CarMax, UPS and Buffalo Wild Wings. In 2019, Cavallo was named Executive of the Year by Advertising Age and was included in Adweek’s Trailblazers list along with agency CCO Karen Costello. Every year she challenges herself to stare one impossible thing in the face and overcome it (think climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro or seeing all seven continents with her kids). Cavallo believes in leading with heart, in overcoming fear, and that real creative magic lies somewhere in between.
