The One Club

Jun 24, 2024

NEW YORK — Two of The One Club for Creativity’s signature programs — the groundbreaking ONE School free portfolio program for Black creatives, and its long-running One ID department — were highlighted in a recent feature article in The New York Times about diversity in the ad industry.

The article, entitled “The ‘Mad Men’ Era Is Long Over. Why Is Advertising Still So White?”, appeared online on June 17, 2024, and in the print edition of The New York Times Sunday edition on June 23, 2024.

Melvin DeBerry, who worked in a steel mill in Memphis before graduating from ONE School and landing an art director job at a top tech firm, is pictured and quoted in the article, as is Adrienne Lucas, The One Club’s head of diversity, equity and inclusion, and strategic partnerships.

The One Club for Creativity – home of The One Show, ADC Annual Awards, Art Directors Club of Europe (ADCE) awards, ONE Asia Awards, Type Directors Club and competition, TDC Ascenders, Young Guns, Young Ones Student Awards, Next Creative Leaders, ONE Screen Short Film Festival, and more – is the world’s foremost non-profit organization whose mission is to support and celebrate the global creative community.  Revenue generated from entries to its global awards shows goes back into the industry to fund programming under the organization’s four pillars: Education, Inclusion & Diversity, Gender Equality, and Creative Development.
