It’s not easy to make the argument that it can be difficult to be a man in today’s world. Clearly, men hold inherent advantages in most societies, however, no matter where in the world you live, if you’re a man, you will live sicker and die younger than the women in your life. And you will be 3-4 times more likely than a woman to have died by suicide. So despite the societal advantages men often live with, men across the globe are struggling with their physical, mental, and emotional health. The Moonshot for Mankind initiative exists to raise awareness about these issues, and to inspire millions of men to commit to taking better care of themselves — so they can, in turn, take better care of their loved ones and the world we live in.
In the language of space iconography, whether in real life or science fiction, we see common themes that we wanted to incorporate into this logo and identity system to generate intrigue and add legitimacy to our cause. These themes for the mark often include an upward thrust and a representation of blasting-off at high speeds. Suggested motion is almost always used. The typographic approach is usually a clean, tracked-out sans-serif, all caps typeface. You will recognize these cues in our design that convey an upward trajectory, a sense of urgency, speed and purpose in our mission. We’ve modified the typeface by removing the bar of the “A” and tracking out all of the letters to literally add space. In addition, the fine lines convey style, precision, and grace. If you look closely, you may notice that the mark is actually a modern take on the traditional male gender icon of the circle and the upward arrow.
