Friends for Life: Children with Diabetes event

Diabetes is a serious condition that affects children worldwide, demanding their attention to manage the disease in order to stay alive. This can make it seem like diabetes rules their lives, leaving kids feeling powerless and limited in what they can do, currently and in their future goals. Their parents or guardians may also try to limit their activities and inadvertently hold them back from trying new things outside of their comfort zones due to health risks.

We want them to always feel they can do more and be more. We want kids to feel that nothing can hold them back, not even diabetes—to reach past limits all the way to the stars. Dexcom continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems help kids and their caretakers manage their diabetes more easily. Our wearable sensors send real-time glucose readings to a user’s compatible display device, letting them know their current blood sugar level and where it’s headed. This makes for more confident treatment decisions and fewer worries that lead to limits on living life to the fullest.

Our message to “Reach for the Stars” came to life at the 2023 Children with Diabetes (CWD) Friends for Life Conference in Orlando, FL. An interactive, panoramic booth installation took attendees on a journey into outer worlds, where all possibilities felt within reach. Complete with a mini arcade, swag giveaway areas, and space-themed artwork, our booth defied gravity with fun for all, kids and adults alike. We also hosted several events, including movie and bowling nights, a day at the waterpark, and educational presentations.

All the fun, interactive activities empowered attendees to go beyond the perceived limitations of living with diabetes and reach for the stars to live a life full of possibilities.
