The entry is the poster for the “Zen meets Anime” seminar presented by Hakuhodo at Spikes Asia 2014. The seminar revealed how the interaction between two contrasting aspects of Japanese culture, refined Zen and chaotic anime, gave Japanese creative advertising its unique character. The brief was to straightforwardly convey that theme to visitors in a way that piqued their curiosity.　　 The motif of Japanese rock garden SEKITEI* is used to represent the tranquility that is the essence of Zen, but it is graphically depicted using wavy lines suggesting the ceaseless motion characteristic of anime. That creates an illusory effect dynamically capturing the moment of fusion between these two paradoxical aspects of Japanese culture.　　 * SEKITEI is Japanese traditional garden that expresses water stream of a pond or a river without using water but with stones, and it is also the symbol of Zen spirit.
