About the Work
This is the story about the collaboration of oldest kimono store and the contemporary world of design. We redesigned the Japanese traditional costume, with a harmony of latest technology and delicate handcraft. From long ago, Japanese have sensed subtle difference of rain condition. They give hundreds of names to each type of rain. Naming rain is indication of Japanese cultural delicacy. Inspired by this fact, we applied the Japanese rain into traditional costume “Kimono". We recreated characteristics of rains by real water drops. After carving the patterns on acrylic plate with laser cutter, thousands of real water droplets were put on the tiny ditches by our hands. We photographed the rain patterns and print them gently on Kimonos. They look traditional Kimono, at the same time they give us futuristic impression. Brand new rain design let Japanese people recognize cultural delicacy again.
