About the Work

Ten years ago, Google Earth was launched to empower people everywhere to discover the world around them. A decade later, we partnered with Google to take a giant leap forward for their latest, groundbreaking release. Google Earth VR lets you explore the entire planet from all new perspectives in a revolutionary, virtual reality environment. We composed three-dimensional music and sound design for six curated tours to bring emotion and grandeur to the experience. We composed 24 minutes of original music, recorded instruments with a full-sphere, ambisonic microphone, and developed a custom, 3rd-order workflow for spatializing the instrumentation. To create the soundscapes, we recorded and crafted three-dimensional sound design for over 60 geographic locations. Sounds increase and decrease in amplitude as you move closer or further from objects in the scene. The result is a novel and immersive experience that, as WIRED Magazine stated, “will change the planet.”
