About the Work
It’s hard to imagine modern life without apps. How would we find our way without Waze? Who would we date without Tinder? How would we Face Swap? To kick off this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple made an intro film that answers that very question. “App-ocalypse” begins with a newly hired Apple employee, temporarily seated in a server room, who unknowingly unplugs the Apple App Store servers. His blunder triggers a chain reaction, causing apps all over the world to disappear, and civilization quickly dissolves into chaos. Without apps, people are left helpless, forced to fend for themselves in a post-apocalyptic black market for app alternatives. The film is a dystopian ‘thank you’ to app developers everywhere.
