In the fast food category in the U.S., chicken sandwiches are a dime a dozen. So when KFC wanted to launch their world-famous Zinger chicken sandwich in America, we needed an idea that would get people to take notice of the Zinger among a sea of sandwiches. Colonel Sanders, the founder of KFC, was the ultimate chicken salesman, and for him, a “world famous” sandwich wouldn’t be good enough; he would want to take the Zinger to the next level. So we set out to do just that: to launch the Zinger into space. The integrated campaign kicked off with TV spots starring Rob Lowe as the Colonel, inspired by JFK and his iconic “We choose to go to the moon” speech. We then promoted our space launch using PR, social, and online video, culminating in a live broadcast of the space launch on Facebook and Twitter.
