About the Work

78 percent of elected officials in the U.S. are men, and some of these men don’t have realistic views of women. To show this, we turned politicians’ quotes into short films to highlight the absurdity and danger of allowing these views to go unchallenged. We ended with a sobering reminder: When women don’t run for office or vote, these are the people who write the rules for them. We show a woman sitting in a doctor’s examination room, wearing a hospital gown. A male doctor enters and tells her she wasn’t raped. When she presses him, insisting she was, he tells her she couldn’t have been, because if it’s a “legitimate rape,” the female body can’t get pregnant, and she’s pregnant. The woman is shocked to find out she’s pregnant. The doctor congratulates her and leaves.
