About the Work

Coming out to family is one of the most nerve-wracking moments in the lives of LGBTQ people. Although some of these conversations go well, many in the LGBTQ community are met with rejection, leading to hurt and separation from their family. Often these families come to regret their reaction and struggle to repair the relationships with the ones they love. This Pride month, Verizon helped families reconcile with their LGBTQ loved ones by encouraging them to call back and say all the things they wish they’d said the moment they came out. The result is the short film “Love Calls Back” that tells the true coming out stories of four LGBTQ people, and captures the moment their family pick up the phone and try again — — inspiring families all over America to do the same. Verizon produced the film in partnership with PFLAG — a non-profit LGBTQ organization. PGLAG’s nationwide call centers are backed by Verizon, allowing them to offer support services to LGBTQ families all across America. PFLAG also offered counselling to all members of the film.
