About the Work
Typography pieces processed through textile design and craft. One in tapestry and the other in graphic poster decorate the room in the art hotel, which promotes the local consumption of the locally produced in Greater Nagoya area.
The double weave cloth, custom-ordered to the renowned local textile producer, Bishu, is used for the method to process grid design, by which letters appear by cutting the upper white cloth to reveal the black cloth at the bottom. The same method with textile is deployed for the letters in the lithograph poster.
The words on the tapestry, quoted from the speech by Charlie Chaplin playing the title role of “the Dictator” is the message for peace to fight against COVID-19 . The graphic work, next to the Alphabet, depicting the tree growing on the upside-down tank, created by the same method, resonates with the same hopeful message.
