Speakers

Rene Alvarez

Political Strategist

Rene serves as Impact Politics’ Vice President, and oversees all digital strategy and production for political campaigns. Before working in the realm of ideas and movements, he did corporate advertising and branding, which includes broadcast and print work for Macy’s, Verizon, and the World Wrestling Federation. For the past 15 years, he’s overseen and helped guide the interactive and digital efforts of numerous Fortune 500 companies as well as nonprofits and governmental agencies. He is a member of the American Association of Political Consultants and is an active member of the education community in South Florida. He currently teaches “Foundations of Political Advertising” at the University of Florida’s School of Journalism Masters Program and gives marketing workshops to small businesses in Miami.

Thomas Bolger

Head of Studio at The Community in Miami

Tom previously has worked at agencies in New York including Widen + Kennedy and Anomaly as well McCann, Deutsche and Havas. He has helped shape and create work for brands like Verizon, Nike, ESPN, Budweiser and Google among many others. He knows he won some awards, but couldn’t tell you what they are. Tom’s focus in the industry is creating space for true collaboration and he believes a great idea can come from anywhere or anyone. He is passionate about design, the intricacies of production and mentoring young creatives. Tom started his career as a writer, designer and illustrator in New York in the editorial publishing space. He is also a working artist having exhibited in galleries and exhibitions all over the country, most recently at Art Miami in 2019.

Curtis Caja

Associate Creative Director at David Miami

Curtis is a Chicago native and current Associate Creative Director for DAVID The Agency Miami. With a handful of years in advertising, Curtis has led multiple national and global creative campaigns for brands such as Burger King, Budweiser and Kraft Heinz. His work has been recognized with D&AD and One Show Pencils, Andy, Clios, Effie, and Cannes Lion awards including the Print Grand Prix in 2017. Lately, outside of the ad game he channels his inner Top Chef in the kitchen, making (and eating) an alarming amount of deep-dish pizzas.

Ivan Calle

VP Executive Creative Director at Zubi

Originally from Colombia and an art director by trade, Ivan has been creating impactful work in the advertising industry for over 19 years. As VP, Executive Creative Director at Zubi, Ivan works tirelessly to ensure the best creative product goes out into the world by overseeing the agency’s creative departments. Throughout his career, he has received many prestigious awards and produced work for both the Latin American and general markets for clients that include Texaco, AT&T, Dell, Ford Motor Company, Olive Garden, Florida Lottery, American Airlines, and Chase Bank, among others.

Marco Caridad

Multidisciplinary Artist | Art Director | Activist

Born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, Marco immigrated to the U.S. in 2011. An alumnus of Neptali Rincon Art School and Centro de Bellas Artes de Maracaibo. Marco received his B.F.A. from the University of Zulia and his M.F.A. from The Art Institute | Miami International University of Art and Design. He currently lives in Miami, Florida, with his husband. Previously worked at Istituto Marangoni and Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) as an adjunct professor. He creates works inspired by romantic and existentialist stories in search of universal hope. Influenced by the Latin American culture, Caridad’s works, sometimes abstract and sometimes figurative, maintain a juxtaposition of textures or figures as a poetic reflection of his environment. His works are part of collections in Australia, Venezuela, and the U.S.A. Caridad is an art director for the Hard Rock account at Redline Media Group, and he has worked on projects for Lenny Kravitz, Miami City Ballet, among others.

Jennifer Garcia

Senior Copywriter

Jennifer is a Senior Copywriter with a background in Marketing and Media Production. She is currently freelancing on multiple projects with clients in various fields. With over 10 years of experience, she has worked in Japan, Madrid, New York, and London.

Federico Giraldo

Creative Director | Educator

Federico has worked as a creative in the U.S., Colombia, and Argentina for sixteen years. During this period, he received awards from The New York Festivals, CLIO, Effie, El Ojo de Iberoamérica, FIAP, El Dorado, and Addy.
As a teacher, he has contributed to hundreds of professionals' education, many of them in top creative agencies, and awarded in the industry's most important festivals.
Based in Miami, Federico is also a Co-Founder and Creative Director of El Puerto, a creative firm specialized in helping new brands set sail for the market.

Alberto Jaen

Founder & CEO

Alberto Jaen was a Creative Director and Executive Creative Director for multinational companies at Leo Burnett, BBDO, and JWT NY for fifteen years. During this time, he received 23 international awards from the Art Directors Club, The One Show, Cristal Festival Europe, Young Guns, Eurobest, New York Festival, or Cannes Festival. He was also a jury member at different International Advertising Festivals like the New York Festival or AdStar in Asia. He is the Founder & Creative Director of plus305 (a creative boutique for social impact with offices in Miami/Madrid/Zurich), some of their clients are VIACOM, Real Madrid, Air Europa, The Idea Center, 3M, SONY Music, Swatch or ELMA. He is also a Co-Founder of HULA App (a Zero Waste App based on the bartering of products and services which recently became a winner at the UN Global Contest for Circular Economy 2020).

Marco Merced

Creative Director at RepublicaHavas

Marco has over 15 years of experience working on a diverse set of brands including Starbucks, Burger King, Volkswagen, JCPenny, Harley-Davidson, and American Express. The first five years of his career were spent in his hometown of Miami at CP+B and freelancing at La Comunidad. He further developed his career working at agencies including Victor & Spoils and The Integer Group while guiding the young as an Adjunct Professor of Creative Concepts at the University of Colorado. At the beginning of 2020, he decided 10 years in the mountains was enough and head back to Miami to assume the role as Creative Director at Republica Havas. He likes cookies.

Beatriz Pardo

Art Director

Vibrant and contemporary, Beatriz is an Art Director who brings brands to life through striking visual approaches across a variety of disciplines. Beatriz is at the forefront of developing brand identities – propelling a fresh perspective forward for client communications in an array of industries, including hospitality, wellness, luxury, and art. She has a knack for advertising and social media and enjoys pursuing and developing ideas that help to bring about positive social change.
Born in Venezuela, Beatriz has lived in four different countries across four continents, adding a unique point of view that helps her understand the nuances of culture and effective cross-channel communications.

Albena Petrus

Creative | Educator

Albena is a multicultural art director who has worked on international accounts for agencies in the US, Cuba and Bulgaria. Being a data-driven creative, she has developed brand identities and advertising campaigns for corporations all over the world that is inspired by her curiosity about people and their interaction with others. She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses for Florida International University's School of Communication and is the founder of Portfolio Maven, a creative portfolio consultancy service.

Mari Tato

Producer

Mari Tato is an advertising, commercial producer who has managed to stay with the times. Two steps ahead to know every detail of any given project and staying calm under pressure. A problem, solver who strives to find creative solutions. Her personality is filled of energy, sensibility, good humor and passion.

John Sotham

Career Development Coordinator, School of Communication + Journalism, FIU

John received his degree from the University of Missouri's Graduate School of Journalism in 1994. He is an instructor at Florida International University's School of Communication and Journalism, as well as its career counselor. He is also a former associate editor and current contributing editor of Air & Space Smithsonian magazine, where he has reported nationally and internationally, and also served as a technical editor and book reviews editor.

Natalya Spicker
