GEL Conference 2011 / GEL Conference

Description
Our conference graphics for the GEL conference was so well received in 2010, we were contacted this year to do it all over again. From a creative standpoint, we ultimately decided to celebrate this years’ theme of “Breaking the Barrier” by juxtaposing real world, NY-inspired situations (the venue for the event is the NY Times Center) with T&F’s authentic “GEL treatment”. Upon creating general story lines, we built an internal, working script that would become a roadmap of content for us to create. We spent a few days shooting all over NYC and Brooklyn, then built rough edits which would become our canvas to brainstorm even further. Under our resident helm, we built an additional small army of amazing illustrators who painstakingly drafted (and rotoscoped) thousands of frames….some even worked in 3D.
Objective
Gel is a truly immersive experience that certainly warrants fresh thinking. Our biggest goal, as a company, was to break the typical, expected mold of “conference graphics” (i.e. show open and static keynote slides). Our process begun with a series of ‘what ifs’ and evolved into crafting our own roadmap of unique event deliverables. Another paramount task, for us, was to truly engage attendees in emotive ways that they would not soon forget.
Technical Challenge
These conference graphics took months of preparation and execution. We had to devise a way to keep the conference goer engaged while also surpassing the work we did the year before. We came up with a solution that did just that, however, it was not an easy task. We had a team of eleven animators working tirelessly to bring this piece to life frame by frame. It was a long arduous road, but the journey yielded fruitful results.
