In the summer of 2022, Roe v. Wade was overturned, stripping away reproductive rights from millions of people. Something had to be done. Leading up to the 2022 midterm elections, we launched a campaign to bring a raging gush of pro-reproductive-rights votes to the polls.
It started by taking a product people who get their period know very well, tampons, and created Votex: “The first tampon that protects your reproductive rights and helps you vote. Period.” We created real Votex branded boxes, filled them with voting information, how to vote, where to vote, information about candidates, the issues and the dangers of not voting.
We even transformed that weird little informational packet inside every tampon box to provide more information and show prospective voters how they could stop conservative flow by “using their fingers and gently sliding preferred lawmakers into place by voting.”
We took to the streets, canvassing and handing out Votex around Boulder and the University of Colorado campus, since women in their 20s account for more than half of the abortions in the United States, and in more than 20 states, reproductive rights are at risk.
Along with the real product we took our effort to social, built a website, and launched videos.
One :15 warns about the dangers of not voting leading to “Toxic Justice Syndrome.” Another asks the audience: “Worried about a conservative flow leaking into your reproductive rights?” The tampon box appears spinning in the air as the voiceover continues, “Get the protection you deserve. Votex. The most effective way to protect your reproductive rights. Period.”
The results? A raging gush of activism. We made major news, were promoted by the biggest pro-choice voices. The senate was turned as millions of vengeful menstruators flowed to the polls. From coast-to-coast abortion-restricting laws were flushed down the drain.
