The Affair is a four-sided film made especially for the HBO Cube?a first-of-its-kind film experience that appeared in both digital and physical spaces. The HBO Cube shows four sides of a story simultaneously, with each side framing a different perspective of the characters and plot. The Affair was meticulously choreographed, designed, and written to work this way.
The Affair is centered on four characters: a husband, a wife, a maid and a lover. Someone is having affair, (that much is obvious), but only after seeing the film from all four sides do you know who it is.
The Affair premiered as outdoor art/out of home advertising, unveiled in three cities (New York, Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia). Curiosity, street teams, and limited-edition direct mail invitations led crowds to the Cube?a first-of-its-kind outdoor film event, embodying HBO?s DNA of innovative storytelling where The Affair was projected (from within!) onto four sides of a 14-foot cube. Only by walking around the structure to see the film play out from all four sides can viewers see what really happened.
