About the Work

Spotify wanted to use their tremendous amount of rich user data to reward loyal users, as well as attract new ones. We created “Spotify Singles” a series of experiments that took cultural insights about music and–powered by Spotify data–created unique, fun ways to both share and discover music. Taste Rewind time-shifted your taste in music, and showed you what you’d be listening to in another era, and allowed you to collect and share each decade’s playlist. MixMates took you and a friend’s music tastes–no matter how far apart–and generated one awesome “degrees of separation” playlist you both would love. Found Them First used listening data to give users a way to prove they were into an artist before they were famous, and let the artist know. Singles had over two million visitors, amassed over 200 million social media impressions, and was covered by press all over.
