When Brancott Estate tasked us to create a timeline telling the story of their history, our first thought was — how do we make history entertaining? The answer — we illustrated their 41 years of winemaking over a whopping 16,000px-long website.
Objective
When Brancott Estate asked their consumers (in testing) if they were interested in their brand history, they said ‘no’. But interestingly, when they took the time to tell their brand history to them, they turned around and said ‘actually, that is interesting’.
They also knew that their target market was design-conscious and frequently formed their opinions through research online.
So the brief they delivered us was quite simple: we need to tell our story, but in an interesting and shareable way so our design-conscious target market are compelled to see it.
Technical Challenge
Due to the fact that Brancott Estate’s consumers were design-conscious and frequently formed their opinions through research online – we knew we had to create something on the cutting edge of technology and design so it would create a lot of noise in the plethora of design blogs out there.
The strategy was to mix old world with new world to present something exciting. That is, hand-draw all elements of the website, but compile and animate them using cutting edge Javascript, CSS3 and HTML5 techniques.
