Ahead of the Young Guns 16 Ceremony + Party taking place on November 15, we are shining a spotlight on the various superstars who will be honored that evening.
New York, NY
What does winning Young Guns mean to you?
Winning Young Guns has been a goal of mine for a while, but it was my first time entering. Knowing what this award signifies, to join the Young Guns ranks feels incredible and I’m super grateful.
It’s not easy to be a successful creative. What sorts of challenges have you encountered to get where you are today?
It’s tough navigating a path through the industry as a minority on many levels, but I choose to spend majority of my focus on the work. To dwell on the obstacles daily is to become defined by them. I'd rather not place my energy there, because I trust that my consistent effort to create great art will continue to open doors for me.
Can you name any past Young Guns winners who you look up to, whose work you admire or are even inspired by?
Kerby Jean-Raymond. (YG14) I love his work and point of view. Plus, we’re from the same neighborhood in New York, so that’s a bonus. ;)
What keeps you going, creatively speaking?
I’m inspired by the process of bringing fresh stories to life and imparting messages of social significance. I appreciate the opportunity I have everyday to make a positive cultural impact by doing what I love.
The Young Guns 16 Ceremony & Party takes place on Thursday, November 15 in New York City.
