A defining figure of Quebec feminism, Janette Bertrand is a journalist, actor, screenwriter, author and even a psychologist. She has profoundly affected Canada culture. Her progressive position has contributed to the emancipation of women and has inspired several generations to become prominent figures in the struggle for equality. Her revolutionary story is told in a documentary called “Janette and daughters.” presented on Tele-Quebec, a Canadian French-language public educational television network in the province of Quebec.
Description
The visual identity developed for the documentary reappropriate the patriarchal codes of the time by putting women in the foreground. With custom typography, each chapter begins with a business card Janette might have used. The typography is an important aspect of the visual identity highlighting the woman of letters, allowing the film to move between different decades. Each chapter uses the visual systems of their time, while reflecting Janette’s prolific and multifaceted career. The women interviewed in the film also get a unique typographic style. Different letters stand out and dare to take their own place.

This visual universe, at once avant-garde as well as retro, was created by an all-woman team to celebrate the timeless legacy of the pioneer of Quebec feminism. This documentary is now available for free on telequebec.tv
