About the Work
Following its strategies of “Neo-Culture Creativity”, Tencent is dedicated to content creation that features cultural IPs of China.
With inspirations from traditional Chinese literature such as the classics, folk fables and myths, we recreate short films with distinctive stories in traditional art forms including Chinese opera, Pinghsu (the traditional Chinese performing art of storytelling), Xiangsheng (a traditional performing art in Chinese comedy also known as comic dialogue) and clay figurine to bring cultural IPs back to life.
The Jujube is a story about a couple of brothers
who lost their family fortune and accidentally
obtained a treasure map left by their father.
Because of greed, they eventually become ghosts.
We made clay dolls, costumes and art from the Ming Dynasty
The action of the main characters, fighting,
mixed with the body of Chinese martial arts
All scenes were performed once in real life,
and finally shot on a stitch-by-stitch basis.
The narration uses traditional comic art
to add a sense of classical opera
This is a new attempt to promote classical Chinese literature
