Description

"The Ruthless Prince" excerpts journalist Ben Hubbard's book on the Saudi Prince Mohamad Bin Salman. "Stare Fashion in the Face", edited by Vanessa Friedman, tackles unethical consumption while re-appropriating loud visual cues from fashion catalogs to communicate serious data. "Beyond the Law's Promise" coincides with the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act: with its bold strokes and black-and-white color scheme, it intends to reflect the sense of urgency for the goals that are yet to achieve. I art directed the illustrator in using negative space as a way to shed light on the unrecognized challenges surrounding disability. The American Roadtrip is a photo-driven 68-page tabloid documenting four journeys across the US a year before the elections: the design is structured around a horizontal chronology through place and time. "Stanning of American Democracy" is a series of essays by Amanda Hess about the integration of meme culture into American politics.

My Role was:

A series of special print sections I designed, art directed, and produced over the span of a year for the New York Times paper. The subject-matter (and design strategy) vary from a section to the other.
