Description

Inspired by the poem “Drinking Alone with the Moon” by Chinese Poet Li Bai, this experimental typography design expresses the juxtaposition of the tangible and intangible, virtual and real, through the use of printing technique and visual form. Inspired by the visual imagery of moonlight and light and shadow, this type design references the waxing and waning of the moon. It pays homage to the origin of Chinese characters as pictographs, treating each stroke as a visual element. By hot stamping on Japanese PACHICA paper, this special printing technique creates a translucent quality in the shape of the typography, allowing light to pass through the paper. Just like moonlight, the light that passes through the paper is soft and casts a beautiful shadow. A printed gravure press technique is used to print black letters on black paper, which is dark as ink but smooth and elegant just like Chinese calligraphy.
