People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is the largest animal rights organization in the world. And it is widely known as an offensive and shocking campaign that compares humans and animals. It might lead people to realize how violent humans are doing to animals, but it can also create a negative feeling toward animal rights itself.

Many consumers take interest in veganism whether it’s about animal rights or not. Along with the increase in health, 86% of non-vegans are trying to incorporate plant-based food into their diet. It is a huge step for them and for PETA to spread veganism to the mainstream culture.

We found that the main hurdle toward veganism is a lack of information and resource. Since omnivores take the mainstream, it is difficult to filter out animal products whether in the online or offline store. So, we decided to create a project that suggests people practice veganism without extra effort.

Vegan Mode is a mobile application that lets people become vegan with just one tap. Users can link already-using shopping apps and activate vegan mode for each based on their preference. For example, if they activate vegan mode on Zara and Sephora, the app automatically filters out animal products from these two brands and only shows vegan products. Through this function, users can freely shop for vegan items without taking any further effort. Vegan Mode also provides a history tab, which displays the consumption and impact they made. It is designed to inspire users to continue practicing vegan by visibly showing the change made by them.
